Mark your calendar for Thursday, March 10th because Golden Crescent CASA is throwing a wedding of sorts. It will be a night of make-believe, dinner, dancing, toasting, and boasting, and trust us when we say, “EVERYTHING WILL BE GREEK!!!”

Ladies and gentlemen, Golden Crescent CASA presents “MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING” Dinner Improvisation, an effort to raise funds and friends to support child advocacy in Calhoun, Colorado, DeWitt, Goliad, Gonzales, Jackson, Lavaca, Refugio, and Victoria counties.

If you’ve seen the popular movie that inspired the theme, you likely recall the characters, the bridesmaid dresses, the humor, and the full-on embrace of family as a connector between people everywhere. The story seems to suggest, “No matter how strange, how complicated, how colorful it may be, the best kind of family is one that is loving and here to stay.”

What a fitting theme to celebrate in support of volunteers who advocate for children who are searching for a family because they have been removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. Says one volunteer, “My job as a CASA is to help one child find a loving, permanent home, but not just a home, a family.” And on the whole, when a child has a Court Appointed Special Advocate – a CASA volunteer – by his/her side, the time that child spends in foster care is dramatically shortened. Now that’s something to celebrate.

So, come as a “wedding guest” and be entertained by your Greek family and visit with your CASA family. There will be Greek food, live Greek music, plate breaking (OPA!), drinks (tea, beer, wine, but watch out for the Ouzo), a silent auction (AKA the gift table), door prizes, a raffle, and much more! And per Greek tradition, guests will have the chance to pin money to the bride for the good luck of Golden Crescent CASA!

This event promises to be one unlike any other Victoria has seen. Come join in the celebration of our volunteers, our staff, and the children in our community.
