On Thursday Evening, February 24th, the members of Cub Scout Troop 116 held their first fund raiser of the year. And it was quite a fund raiser, requiring the efforts of both Mother and Dad. An Enchilada Dinner was held followed by a “Lad n’ Dad” Cake Auction of cakes baked by fathers and sons. Mike Clifton was the auctioneer. The mothers made the enchiladas and they had been working all that Thursday preparing the food and setting the tables. Carol Rosenboom and Rachel Redding were the mothers in charge of this event and from the various comments at the tables, all diners were very pleased with the food.
A delicious variety of cakes were baked by father/son teams: Ethan and Bryan Redding, Gavin and Curtis Gosnell, John and David Rosenboom, Logan and John Hobbs, Dillon and John Hobbs, Thomas and Jody Hawes, Taylor and Willie Ragusin, Joseph Diaz and Manuel Lento, Jacob Diaz and Manuel Lento, Sam Thumann and Jacob Maraggia,Clayton and Jacob Maraggia, Joey and Jeremy Helms, Evan and Mike Clifton, Ronnie Jr. and Ronnie Carriles Sr., Anthony and Nathan Luna, and Gavin and Steven Vasquez.
Interesting comments overheard:
“Making a cake was really pretty easy; just take some of that white stuff and add some sugar and beat in eggs and pour it in a pan and put in the oven.”
“And wait for it to come out; sure takes a long time in the oven.”
“But the really best part is licking the beaters and cleaning the icing bowl.”
From the mothers:
“Flour and other ingredients everywhere!”
“Took longer to clean the kitchen than it did to bake the cake!”
“But it was worth it and we’d do it again!”
Helping the mothers serve the meal were Brownie Scouts Carly Rosenboom and Kaleigh Diaz, sisters of two Cubs. They were kept quite busy with providing all diners with refreshing beverages.
The Cub Scouts meet every Tuesday at 3:30 pm at the Elementary School. And the meeting following the Dinner was Tuesday, March 1st, when achievement awards were given to the Scouts. Contact Beverly Clifton, Cubmaster at 983-4203 if your son would like to be a member of this group.
