Well, this is the second week of May and the wind is still blowing harder than normal for this time of year. The good thing is that people are still catching good trout and redfish. I have been catching fish. I just have to fish different areas than I normally do this time of year. San Antonio Bay has been too rough and muddy to fish unless the wind lays down some. Friday was calm enough to fish. Myself and a few other guides that I know caught our limits of trout.
When I use bait, I am still using live shrimp. I know a guide that used live croaker in Matagorda Bay on Saturday and had forty trout, and caught and released one 27-inch trout.
There are a fish in Espiritu Santo Bay on the north shoreline. When the wind is blowing hard it is rough and hard to fish. The Greens area is holding good trout and redfish along with big sharks. If you go there, be careful. I saw a big bull shark upon a flat in knee deep water. – Made my customer a little nervous.
I have some open days left this month. Call 361-648-4539 or e-mail me at griffin@tisd.net.
Have fishin’ fun! -Capt. Griff
