I keep expecting this wind to slow down for a while but I guess it’s just going to be one of those years when we just have to deal with it. We have had a few reasonable days but its been 20 to 25 gusting to 35 most days. The fishing has been close to outstanding despite the wind, so I suppose we should count our blessings.
The trout action in the bays has really turned on over the last few days. San Antonio Bay, Espiritu Santo Bay and Matagorda Bay have all been producing nice boxes of trout for waders and drift fishermen alike. Live shrimp and soft plastics have accounted for most of the action. Croakers are available but they are still quite small.
The Lakes have been a good bet for redfish and the trout are showing up back there as well. We’ve had some good tides but when the north wind blows its pretty skinny back there. I think if we can get lucky and get some rain we might see things get really good.
Flounder fishing has shown great improvement as well. Giggers are working the shorelines pretty hard and they are bringing in some nice boxes of fish.
The jetties have been good for reds, drum and sheepshead. We’ll catch an occasional trout, some sharks, Spanish mackerel and we even caught 2 grouper yesterday. The wind has been north and east lately so you can usually find a place to hide out at the rocks, but the trip across the bay can be tricky.
