A late addition to the 2011-2012 Lyceum Lecture Series at Victoria College has been added to the schedule. On Thursday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m., VC welcomes award-winning history professor Dr. Terry Alford from Northern Virginia Community College to the Johnson Symposium.
Alford is appearing in Victoria as part of “The Civil War in Texas” Conference, hosted by the VC/UHV Library to commemorate the 150 year anniversary of the Civil War. Alford is an expert on President Abraham Lincoln and his assassin, John Wilkes Booth. His presentation for the Lyceum lecture will center on how the political sentiments that motivated Booth’s assassination of Lincoln were prevalent throughout the South in 1865. The Kathryn O’Connor Foundation is supporting Alford’s participation in the 2011-2012 Lyceum Lecture Series.
Other guests of the 2011-2012 Lyceum Lecture Series include chef, author and host of TLC’s “BBQ Pitmasters,” Kevin Roberts at noon on Thursday, Sept. 29 in the VC Student Center; Blackhawk helicopter pilot and inspiration for the 2001 movie “Black Hawk Down,” Michael Durant on Thursday, Nov. 17; family law attorney and women’s advocate Rebecca Kiessling on Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012; and acclaimed animal behavior expert and autism self-advocate Temple Grandin on Thursday, Apr. 5, 2012.
