The Church has a NEW PASTOR! On Sunday, November 13, 2011, the Church voted 100% by secret ballot, to call Reverend Donnie L. Martin to be Pastor of the Church. Brother Donnie Martin immediately accepted.

Brother Martin and his wife Shirley will be moving to Port O’Connor as quickly as possible and hoping to be here before Christmas. Donnie was born May 17, 1950 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He served in the Air Force as a Security Specialist from 1969 to 1973. In 1970 he married Shirley Brown of Union, Mississippi. Shirley is a pianist and organist and Sunday School teacher. She has a degree in Elementary Education.

From 1975 through 1979, Brother Donnie attended Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Missouri and received his degree in Theology in Pastoral Studies. Donnie is currently pastor of Parkview Baptist Church in Leland, Mississippi and has been pastor since 2004. Pray for Brother Donnie and the Church as we welcome them to Port O’Connor.

The Church will have their Annual Christmas Party and “Birthday Bash” on Sunday evening, December 11, at 6:00 p.m. The “Birthday Bash” is for all who have had a birthday in October, November and December. Brother George Yarbrough will give a devotion and the celebration will begin. There will be finger foods and desserts. The Christmas Party will be a “White Elephant Exchange”. This is always a fun time as you try to “hold on” to the gift you select. Everyone is invited to this Christmas fun time. You are asked to bring your favorite “finger food” or dessert and a “gag gift” for the White Elephant Gift Exchange.

See you in church Sunday!

Dear Pastor Donnie Martin:

I saw your interesting story about Felix Mendelssohn in SermonCentral.com Thank you.

I am a Baptist myself, however currently ministering at the organ of a Lutheran church.
I was wondering, sir, if you had the source for the Felix Mendelssohn story (when he was supposedly in the military and wanted to play the organ). I have studied his life and could not discover any source for his military duty.

Thank you, sir … I do appreciate your time.
God bless your ministry. Merry Christmas!
