Nueva Espana: Spanish Colonial Artifacts featuring the Woodrick Collection

Spanish explorers began mapping the Gulf Coast of Texas in 1519, but it wasn’t until 1722 that a presidio and mission were established in southern Victoria County, mostly in response to the perceived French invasion represented by La Salle’s colony of 1685. Artifacts from the Garcitas Creek, Tonkawa Bank and Mission Valley locations of Presidio la Bahia and Mission Espiritu Santo are featured.
