Red snapper season is now open and on most days during the first week in June the weather conditions were ideal for offshore fishing. Dave Pope’s first snapper trips of the season were productive with snapper weighing from 10 to 12 lbs and from 24” to 28” long. The fish were caught over underwater structure or near gas platforms from 25 to 40 miles offshore. Ling, dolphin, king mackerel and amberjack were also caught but the red snappers were the targeted species for Dave and his fishing buddies, Petra and Ladd Hockey, Matt Stern and Tony Biggert.
