Hey, Kids! If you and your Mom have not signed up for this Summer’s Reading Program at the Library, there is still time. Each Tuesday until July 17th, there has been an interesting speaker scheduled.

As the reading logs for the books you’ve read are not due until July 14th, each child has the time and the opportunity to begin participation in this program. And special prizes will be given at the Awards Ceremony on July 24th for the number of hours spent reading.

Shelving and re-organizing the books in our Library often exposes me to a new author, sometimes one I’ve just heard about, but neglected to read. And so it was when I picked up Nelson DeMille’s book, BY THE RIVERS OF BABYLON. Although written and published in 1978, the author’s premise of continual strife in the Middle East is certainly true today. Set in Israel in various cities throughout that country, DeMille details the many individuals, both Arab and Israeli, involved in the forthcoming U.N. Conference to formulate a plan for peace in the Middle East. But a sect of highly trained Palestinian soldiers decide that those traveling from Israel will never arrive at the Conference.

Two super-equipped Concorde jets are carrying the participants to the conference in New York, scheduled to arrive in a matter of a few hours, when an unidentified voice breaks into the radio of each plane, announcing that a radio-monitored bomb has been placed aboard and that the passengers have now become hostages of the Palestinians. One plane is demolished and the second manages to successfully crash land. And the passengers then find themselves fighting for their lives. A fascinating book.

Just a quickie: we have an unbelievable array of books for purchase at our Library, both hard cover and soft cover, of all types of fiction and even nonfiction. Come see us before you take your trip! And we welcome all you summer visitors to our Library; we may be small but we have a lot of good books and DVDs! Just takes a Library Card!

And remember: Our Library is open on Monday & Tuesday from 9-1 & 2-6; on Wednesday, we open at 1:00 p.m. till 6:00 p.m.; Thursday from 12:00 Noon till 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. till 1:00 p.m.
