This past weekend was very close to the exciting “Warrior’s Weekend” in Port O’Connor. The number of Port O’Connor volunteers involved in the 4th of July celebration was tremendous. the BIG FIREWORKS SHOW on the beach from and the outstanding Port O’Connor Volunteer Fire Department Barbecue Fund Raiser required many volunteers for their success. In passing the Fire Station on Friday, July 6, I noticed several of the Fire Department personnel working on the barbecue pits cooking the meat. This activity continued all night Friday until early Saturday morning. When I arrived Saturday about noon, I saw at least 24 people serving food and beverages. All of these people were volunteers from Port O’Connor. By the way, the food was outstanding; the meat cooked to perfection, the beans perfect, and the potato salad was to “die for”.
Saturday night I walked to the beach with my chair and enjoyed the best fireworks display ever! Now this “just didn’t happen”, it took a lot of Port O’Connor volunteers to make it happen. Volunteers solicited contributions, planned the “fire works show”, ordered and made all the arrangements, including the “portable potties”, Sheriff Deputies, and EMS personnel. Now we think all of this is enough, well it isn’t! After the show and the barbecue, everything had to be cleaned up! Guess who cleaned everything up? Port O’Connor volunteers. Let’s all be sure and pass around a lot of “Thank you very much”!
This past Sunday was a real blessing at First Baptist Church. We had a full congregation and a lot of family visitors were welcomed. Our Pastor, Brother Donnie Martin, delivered a great Sunday morning message and Brother Raymond Grant led the congregation in singing “Tell Me the Story of Jesus”, “What If It Were Today”, and “Make Me A Blessing”. The Choir sang a beautiful song, “I Can Tell You Now the Time”. Brother Raymond Grant had a big group of children to listen to his great children’s sermon.
The Church is making plans for a BIG REVIVAL, September 16-19, 2012. Services will be held on Sunday, September 16 at 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. and on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. Preaching the Revival will be Brother Shannon Talley, Pastor of McAllen First Baptist Church. Special prayer meetings are being held now on each Tuesday of the week. The men are meeting at 7:30 a.m. and the ladies meet at 6:00 p.m. and both of the prayer meetings are in the Fellowship Hall. The men and ladies will be praying specifically that God will bring a great revival to Port O’Connor.
See you in church Sunday!
