The weather has been fantastic now for about 2 weeks or so. Cooler nights, milder daytime temps and lighter winds have made fishing a lot more comfortable. We’ll be seeing some fronts soon, I’m sure, but for right now its just right.
Trout fishing is beginning to slow a bit. Croaker fishing is beginning to slow down and I haven’t heard as many really good reports from waders looking for trout. Reds are the main attraction in the bays right now. Live shrimp and artificials have been the baits of choice. Most of the reds are coming from the grassy shorelines.
The lakes have been fishable, plenty of water, but I haven’t heard of much being caught back there. I’ll be spending a lot more time in the lakes over the next month or so.
The jetties just keep on giving up fish. Reds and drum are there, Tarpon are still there. Some Specks show up on clear days. The kingfish are around, they showed up late this year. One of our local guides even came in with a nice box of Red Snapper recently. We caught one particularly aerobatic Tarpon last week. He made some spectacular jumps but we finally got him to the boat.
Look for some really good fishing everywhere over the next few weeks. As a matter of fact, the duck hunters will be out there soon and from all forecasts we are in for another outstanding season.
