It’s hard to believe that we are nearing the end of 2012! Soon, election Day will have come and gone, surely summer sun will turn into autumn fun, and Thanksgiving and Christmas will arrive! We have a very active congregation and are planning some exciting events for the days ahead.
We were blessed with a testimony of a missionary to Mexico who told us of the kidnapping of his son and of Divine intervention. We certainly rejoiced with such encouraging news that when the enemy does his worst, God is still on the Throne and will work all things together for our good and His glory! This past Sunday, Hermano Jessie Alderete ministered about the hour that we are living in – the dawning of the Coming of the Lord. We were all spurred to draw nearer and work harder for the Lord in these Last Days.
Joane and I were blessed with a special “Pastor’s Appreciation” gift that will send us to Kerrville for a special retreat this week. We are looking forward to the cooler evenings that the Hill Country will have, but also excited about being back home for next weekend. Houston Johnson, former youth leader for this area, will be our guest speaker on the evening of October 28. You will be blessed by attending!
Attention, all Friday Night Youth! Wednesday, October 31 has been declared Youth Night at the Chapel. We will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be out by 8:15-8:30 p.m., so the youth can get their “beauty sleep”! The evening will consist of youth activities and “pumpkin decorating”. There will be refreshments and candy will be passed out as the youth head home. It will be a fun night and all the youth from this area are urged to come.
Our beloved Reverend Howard and Margie Burroughs will be with us again for one service only. Sunday morning, November 4, the Burroughs will be ministering here at the Chapel. For many years, this excellent couple led about 300 churches into spiritual gains. They have retired and now travel to churches to encourage them to be what they have been called to be. Most of us have heard the Burroughs minister, but if you have not, you will not want to miss this special service.
We are planning a special Veteran’s Day celebration at the Chapel. We are encouraging all those who have loved ones serving in our military to get their pictures to Hermano Jessie (210/625-0446) as soon as possible in preparation for this special observance. There will be other special guests that will be coming from San Antonio. Hermano Jessie has been in the Army for 27 years and will bring with him a special understanding of our servicemen and women and what we can do to bless them. Everyone is invited to attend this special Veteran’s Day service.
The Community Thanksgiving Service will be hosted by the Chapel on Sunday, November 18, at 6:00 p.m. Port O’Connor Baptist Pastor, the Reverend Donnie Martin, will be bringing the message. A special offering will be received to provide Thanksgiving and Christmas food boxes to needy families in our community. We trust that everyone will make this an extra special offering. In the past few years, additional funds have been sought to meet this need, but when we all do our best, God will make up the rest!
NOTICE: Names of families who need food baskets must reach me (361/983-2619 or cell 361/218-6693) no later than Sunday, November 11 to have a box prepared for them. Remember, our goal is not to feed greed – only need! Boxes will be distributed on Tuesday, November 20.
The Chapel has already filled its calendar with the Christmas activities! We love Thanksgiving because it gets us ready for receiving the Christ of Christmas! You are invited to share in the activities of the Chapel and are urged to, “Come, grow with us!”
