Aiming to build a Sports Complex for our children
The tides are turning for the Port O’Connor Sports Association! POCSA membership has grown over the past few months. With fresh faces come ideas and energy to propel the project forward.
April Chronister discussed ideas for a membership drive. She intends to send POCSA membership forms and a membership drive letter home with students at POC Elementary. A booth was erected at the POC Elementary Halloween Carnival, which increased awareness of the POCSA project and gained a few signatures for the petition. Chronister also created a Facebook page for POCSA, which received more than 30 likes within the first few hours of creation.
At the October meeting, members talked about the need for a name and logo for the Sports Complex. The logo design will incorporate a combination of PO’C landscape and sports. Bernie Klein designed a logo template to be used in a logo contest. POCSA will hold a logo contest for students from Port O’Connor. Prizes will be awarded. The deadline for logo contest entries is Monday, December 17, 2012.
POCSA has received letters from multiple community members supporting their vision to build a sports complex in Port O’Connor. Calvin Ragusin stated he would like to form a committee to brainstorm, plan, and present the POCSA Master Plan for the Sports Complex. POCSA would like to hire or obtain a contract with a grant writer and an engineer to assist with technical areas of the process.
The upcoming meeting will be held on Monday, November 19, 2012, at 6:30 p.m. in the POC Community Center Community Room. The focus will be on members’ input for the Phase I layout. It has been requested that Commissioner Kenneth Finster attend the November meeting as well.
