Port O’Connor School Principal Lydia Strakos reports (on Feb. 4) that a CCISD maintenance crew has been working on repairs to the school auditorium and the damage from the January 29 fire should be completed soon, although the stage curtains will probably have to be replaced.
The fire was discovered about 5:30 p.m. Fire extinguishers were used and 911 was called. Firefighters responded quickly and had the fire under control in about twenty minutes. No one was injured.
Principal Strakos gives special thanks to Debbie and Whitney Ronshousin, Jeff Barts, and the Port O’Connor Fire Department. “If it had not been for these people, the school would have had much more damage,” she said.
Classes resumed as normal on February 1, except for closing off the auditorium.
