Christine and Marshall Cady with Judge Nancy Pomykal

April 13, 2013 was a very special day for Seadrift couple, Marshall Cady & Christine Williamson and special day for Judge Nancy Pomykal as well.

When Christine & Marshall chose April 13, 2013 as their wedding date, little did they know their wedding would be a milestone in Judge Pomykal’s career. Their wedding was the 500th ceremony the Judge would officiate. Ms. Pomykal had planned a big surprise for the couple, but did not let them know it was her 500th ceremony, or what she had in store for them.

Serving Calhoun County as Justice of the Peace for 23 years, Ms. Pomykal has had the opportunity to preside over many weddings and anniversary/renewal of vows . “The role of Justice of the Peace can be very intense, stressful and demanding. But, the weddings are fun and exciting. They make up for the not-so-pleasant duties we are required to do,” Judge Pomykal said.

Preparing for a wedding, Judge Pomykal likes to meet with the couple, find out a little about them, the theme of their wedding, and create a special ceremony just for that couple. Ms. Pomykal strives to “personalize” each wedding for every couple and customize their special event.

Marshall and Christine chose an outdoor wedding with a country theme. The families were involved and all the planning and hard work created the perfect event. A large number of guest were present and a great time was had by all. The weather was beautiful and the farmer’s shrimp boil was delicious.

During the reception, Judge Pomykal presented the couple with a large white “wedding basket” she made. The basket contained a bottle of Champagne, two glasses, a heart shaped picture frame, chocolate creamy caramels, artisan rolled wafers, vanilla truffles, mixed nuts, pralines and dark chocolate truffles. The basket made a perfect gift for the couple to enjoy on their honeymoon. In addition, when it came time for the groom to pay for the officiating, the Judge refused payment and said, “ There is no charge. My fee is part of the 500th celebration package.”

“I try to make every wedding special. But, the milestones are extra special. I have presented a wedding basket to each 100th couple since beginning the role as Justice of the Peace. The 100th wedding was in August 1995, the 200th was September 1999, the 300th March of 2005, the 400th was May of 2009 and the 500th was April 13th, 2013.” It has been an honor and privilege to preside over the weddings and anniversary/vow renewals. Each ceremony has been unique.” The Judge said as she began her plans for working on the 600th ceremony and what she can do to surprise the next special milestone couple.
