May has been a busy month at King Fisher Park! Trucks, personnel and heavy equipment from two different entities worked together to do a really good deed for Port O’Connor. Victoria Electric Co-Op gave the ok for the community service project requested and headed up by Sam Neill, Right of Way Superintendent and Certified Arborist. Mr. Neill and Mr. Leon Caceres, foreman of the Nelson Tree Service crew, worked all morning with many employees clearing out and trimming the over-growth of trees and shrubs surrounding our King Fisher Park public restrooms. Assisting with the clean-up project was Commissioner Kenny Finster who had his men on the job with dump trucks and front end loaders to clean up the mess and get the park ready in time for the Crawfish Festival sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. Many Thanks to Victoria Electric Co-OP and to Commissioner Finster who said YES to this request for help.
If you haven’t taken a look at the King Fisher public restrooms lately, do stop by. In the interest of security, new lights have been installed inside and out and the inside lights come on when someone enters. Security has also been improved by the tree and shrub trimming allowing for more visibility. The inside and outside have been newly painted with epoxy paint inside to facilitate cleaning. Bright colors have helped give the restrooms a more beachy look. We are still trying to come up with a cleaner that will improve the look for the stainless steel fixtures, so if you have something that you think would work, let us know. This refurbishing of the restrooms was a joint project of Calhoun County Commissioner, Kenny Finster and the Port O’Connor Chamber of Commerce.
