LaNelle Roden Bonar, after a short illness, passed away August 28, 2013, in Port Lavaca, at the age of 90.
She was born on December 14, 1922, near Corpus Christi to Verdi Ann Meredith and Silas Reed Roden, the youngest of four daughters. She was married to Dr. Howard Franklin Bonar on February 10, 1943, in Gulfport, Mississippi.
She is survived by daughter, Lex Freitag (Reynaldo Soliz), and son Bob Burdette Bonar (Linda); four grandsons – Brandon Bonar, Brian Bonar, Alex Freitag and Adam Freitag; six great-grandchildren – Bayard, Bergen, Reagan, Katie, Ryann, and Luke; numerous nieces and nephews; and friend and caregiver, Clara Margaret Bass.
LaNelle has been a member of First United Methodist Church since 1953, where she served on many committees. She served on the Parks Board and the Port Lavaca Cemetery Association Board. Service to the Emergency Food Pantry was a large part of LaNelle’s life. She was the very first member of the Port Lavaca YMCA, where she exercised every weekday.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 sisters, a niece and a nephew. LaNelle loved the Lord, her family, and her friends. She will be sorely missed by all.
Services were held August 30 at First United Methodist Church in Port Lavaca.
