Calhoun County Republican Club (CCRC) is pleased to present Justice Eva Guzman of the Supreme Court of Texas as guest speaker on Monday, April 7, 2014. Justice Guzman was appointed to her position in 2009 by Governor Rick Perry and has since been recognized by many law and community organizations for her service on and off the bench. She was named one of the “101 Most Influential Latino Leaders” by Latino Leaders magazine, a national publication; two law-enforcement organizations, P.O.L.I.C.E., Inc. and Houston Police Officers Union, have selected Justice Guzman as “Appellate Judge of the Year”; Texas Executive Women presented Justice Guzman with a “Woman on the Move” award in recognition of her professional and civic accomplishments; the Hispanic National Bar Association honored Justice Guzman as “Latina Judge of the Year”; and The Mexican American Bar Association of Texas Foundation also has recognized Justice Guzman for her many contributions and awarded her its “2009 Judge of the Year award”.
Before taking the bench, Justice Guzman enjoyed a successful 10-year career in private law practice. She holds a B.B.A. from the University of Houston and a law degree from South Texas College of Law. Though born in Chicago, Justice Guzman grew up in Houston and has been a resident for more than 35 years. She and her husband, Houston Police Sergeant Tony Guzman, have one daughter, Melanie Alexis.
The public is invited to attend the CCRC meeting on April 7, 2014, at the Grace Episcopal Church, 213 E. Austin, Port Lavaca. Dinner will be served at 5:00 pm at a cost of $7.00 and reservations are recommended by calling 552-6080. The meeting begins at 6:00 pm.
