My neighbors Parker and Patty are always telling me how proud they are to be a part of Port O Connor, Texas. They say it is a great community and so friendly. Patty’s best friend from grade school recently retired and was considering a move to POC. She called and asked Patty what kinds of things they found to do. She thought they must get bored in such a small town. Patty began to tell her of all the things they were a part of just recently. She told of POC Women’s Service Club meetings and the community garage sale, CCA meetings, Town Hall meetings, Friends of the Library plans, Ladies Bunco, the recent men’s retreat at Fisherman’s Chapel, the Senior Lunch, Women’s Book Club, the Cemetery Meetings, planning for Warriors’ Weekend, the Crawfish Fest, Easter Sunrise at the Beach, Republican Club, the Beach Cleanup, the Crafts Festival, a good friends birthday, several productive days of fishing with Parker and the grandson; and then when she paused to take a breath and tell her more….Her friend hollered stop! Stop! Stop! You and Parker sound like you are working harder now than you did when we were working together. Patty laughed and told her ‘No, it really isn’t like work at all. We have lots of friends, lots of fun, and really enjoy what we do. We volunteer some, we play some and enjoy outside activities. Come visit. You’ll see.” So, next month, Patty’s friend is coming to stay for a month. She wants to really visit in our community. You just might meet her when you are having Cookie’s coffee for breakfast; Cathy’s cooking for lunch or even Speedy’s pizza for dinner. She might be the newcomer sitting behind you in the next community function you attend. So, take a minute, say hello, make her feel welcome. As the temperature warms and the schedules get busy, you just might be meeting your next neighbor when you are out and about in our community. What will they think of POC after they meet you? Be a part of the positive that makes a difference, and just like Patty and Parker you’ll be proud to be a part of Port O Connor too.
