Students Walk 1,830 Miles: L to R: Donald Morales (3rd place), Michael Sachtleben (3rd place), Robert McWherter (3rd place), Jason Nguyen (2nd place), Adrian Munoz (1st place).

The Seadrift Walking Program takes “steps” to promote physical activity while teaching students about geography. The program is hosted by Dow, and involves site volunteers visiting Seadrift School every Thursday to monitor students as they walk laps in front of the school.

Every lap the students walk is recorded, and results are correlated to actual miles. Total miles walked this year was 1,830! Students started their “Walk Across America” this year in Austin, TX and have walked from there to Baton Rouge, LA, Jackson, MS, Little Rock, AK, and Montgomery, AL, Tallahassee, FL and made it all the way to Columbus, Ohio.
An end of year pizza party celebrating the students “Walk Across America” took place on Thursday, May 22nd. Prizes were awarded to the students that walked the most laps. Congratulations to the following “super steppers”:

1st Place – Adrian Munoz – 61 laps/15.25 miles
2nd place – Jason Nguyen – 60 laps/15 miles
3rd place – Donald Morales – 49 laps/12.25 Miles
3rd place – Michael Sachtleben – 49 laps/12.25 miles
3rd place – Robert McWherter – 49 Laps/12.25 Miles

Thank you to Seadrift School staff for allowing Dow to spend time with their students, and to Dow site volunteers who visited Seadrift School every Thursday to encourage students with high fives and words of inspiration as they walked their laps.
