Shrimpfest Pageant

Twenty-five boys, girls, and young ladies vied for titles in the 2014 Shrimpfest Pageant, hosted by the Seadrift Lions Club. A capacity crowd cheered their favorites on as they strutted their stuff and talked about how they serve their community, what they like about where they live and go to school, and plans for summer vacation. The races were close, but winners were crowned, and everyone walked away knowing they had done their best. Our pageant would not have been possible were it not for our generous business and individual sponsors, Texas Shaved Ice of Edna, The Crazy Fisherman of Port Lavaca, Reel Time Lodge of Seadrift, Nana’s Blooming House of Seadrift, and Kenneth Finster. All proceeds from the pageant benefit the Seadrift Lions Club Scholarship Fund.

Among the youngest competitors, Braxton Koenning, sponsored by Bay Rat Lawn Service, was declared the winner in the Pretty Baby Boy category. Leray Austin, sponsored by his grandparents, placed second and Cayson Matula, sponsored by Kenneth and Dwana Finster, placed third. Allie Villarreal was crowned Pretty Baby Girl. She was sponsored by her Great Uncle Mike Villarreal, Jr. Amiah Harvey placed second, while Arie Garza, sponsored by her grandparents, placed third. Chelsea Metcalfe and Phalyn Ovalle (sponsored by Andy Kolar) rounded out the category. Our Little Mister, Kendall Cady, was sponsored by Perfection Lawn Service and Tractor Shredding. Winner of Little Miss, Madison Cossey, was sponsored by her parents. Each entrant received a participation gift donated by the Texas Department of Transportation, Ashley Waghorne, and the Seadrift Lions. Top three in each group also received a trophy.

The young ladies in the three older divisions also received a participation gift and trophies for the top three finishers. The winner in each category also received a tiara and sash.

Junior Miss was the largest group of young ladies. McKenna Boedecker from Seadrift was chosen as the winner, with McKenna Guevara from Port O’Connor second and Jillian Hallam of Port Lavaca (sponsored by Kench Connally, Farmers Insurance) placing third. Also competing in this age group were Ellie Mitchell, Jada Dean (Great Uncle Mike Villarreal, Jr.), Briley Christensen (Bay Flats Lodge), and Sydney Rasmussen (Bay Area Automotive.)

Cierra Harper was crowned Young Miss Shrimpfest. She was sponsored by Froggies Bait Dock. Placing second was Shelby Cady, followed by Alyssa Reyna in third. Reel Time Lodge sponsored both Shelby and Alyssa. Maura Mitchell and Maris Morgan also competed for the Young Miss title.

Crowned Miss Shrimpfest for 2014 was Kaylie Gomez, sponsored by www.TejanoEMagazine.com. Kaylie’s extensive community service and extracurricular activities helped propel her to the top in her age group. In addition to the other prizes, Kaylie will also receive a scholarship upon enrollment in college or trade school. Hannah Spencer, sponsored by her parents, placed second, followed by Victoria Reyes (Coastline Trailers) in third. Each of these young ladies is very active in their communities and school activities, and will surely be very successful in the future.

The Seadrift Lions wish to thank all of our pageant participants, their parents and sponsors, and our pageant sponsors for helping make this year’s pageant a fun and memorable experience for all of us.
