Lownell Newman, 72 of Seadrift went to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 14, 2014. She was born in Okimah, OK to the late Leo and Captola Mamie Dryden Vigus on January 7, 1942. She married the love of her life Samuel Newman, Sr. on July 24, 1972 and was a devoted wife, a loving mother and Memaw. Lownell was a servant of the Lord along side her husband and they founded the Church of Redemption in Victoria and then Seadrift. She will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Samuel Newman, Sr. of Seadrift; daughter, Sandra (Charles) Gilmore of Stinnett; sons, Gerhard Newman of Seadrift, Sam Newman, Jr. of Louisanna, Dan (Maryann) Newman of Benton, LA; sister, Reva Anderson of Bakersfield, CA; brothers, Dorian Vigus of Red Bluff, CA, Craig Vigus of OK; brother in law, Garland Self of Wewoka, Ok; granddaughter, Hannah Newman; seven other grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held at Church of Redemption in Seadrift, with Derral Humble and Regina Jeter, officiating. Burial followed at Seadrift Cemetery.
