The membership of the POC Service Club met on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in the Community Center. As this is the first meeting of our new year, it is a very important meeting as plans for the coming year were discussed, as well as the election of new officers for the year 2014-2015.

Sally Ragusin was present to inform members that she would be able to log in and price the many desserts that members will make for the upcoming benefit on Saturday, September 6, 2014 for Freda Ragusin Howard. A good turnout was expected as so many of the members have extraordinary skills in baking desserts.

Additionally, mention was made that a memorial to the Fire Department in the name of Cotton Harris. It was a special memorial for Cotton as he was the nephew of our beloved Agnes Valigura. And following discussion, Club members voted to send an increased amount to the 8 teachers in our school for the necessary supplies they purchase each year.

Our next Garage & Bake Sale will take place on Saturday, November 8, 2014 in the Pavilion of the Community Center. And to you women who think a joyful September activity is cleaning out closets, remember that we have storage space still available. Contact Marie Hawes, 361 920-2322 for further information.

Election of officers then took place with Marie Hawes resuming her prior term as President; Vice President is Carol Haverfield who currently holds that office; Secretary is Diane Cooley and Treasurer will be Annette Leach; those officers were re-elected for another term of office. Marie joined our Club in 2000 and then was elected President the first time in September of 2002. She was also named Citizen of the Year by both our Club and the Baptist Church during their annual February Sweetheart Banquet.

We welcome all interested woman in this area who desire to be a part of the continuing changes throughout our community; many of which are propounded by our Club as well as other organizations. Club membership is composed of several members who have been active for more than ten years; others are fairly new being present only for 6 months. We meet on the first and third Thursday of every month; except for December and the summer months beginning in May. Meetings are held at 10:00 a.m. in the back room of the Community Center. Come and join us; you won’t be disappointed and with the total diversity of membership, you will certainly be able to find your special place and interest. Hope to see so many new and smiling faces on October 2nd!
