Arriving at The Inn at Clark’s Afternoon of December 3
The Toy Run was founded by Jerry Karnes with the help of Andrew Coker. The original plan was to have a fun run at a time when most boaters had put their boat away for the winter. In looking for a specific reason it was thought that toys for needy children might be appreciated in the coastal areas where few sources are available as they are in big cities. Thus began the Toy Run…
The first year only 11 boats delivered enough toys to provide Christmas for over 50 children. Last year over 35 boats made the trip and delivered enough toys to provide a great Christmas for over 2,900 children in need.
All of our toys go to the Adopt-An-Angel program in Port O’Connor. They are a 501(c)3 charity and they arrange all the toys, gift wrap them and get them to the children. In addition they provide warm clothes, shoes and a Christmas meal for many of the children. The people on the Toy Run NEVER get to see the children we help. As far as the kids are concerned the gifts came from Santa.
The children we help are often from youth homes, orphanages, foster homes, abused children centers and other facilities. Few have ever had a brand new Christmas present and some have never seen Christmas at all. Please help us continue this tradition.
