Students learn pole-climbing techniques during VC’s first Power Line Worker Level I course last fall.

Victoria College is teaming up with Victoria Electric Cooperative to offer a Power Line Worker Level I course to meet a growing demand in the field.

The classes will be held from Feb. 22 to May 17 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 to 10 p.m. There will also be four mandatory Saturday classes from 8 to 5 p.m.
VC began offering the course in the fall and all spots were filled for the first class. Eight students successfully completed the course and became eligible for the Level II course.

“We are extremely proud of our partnership with Victoria Electric Cooperative and the eight students who successfully completed the inaugural class that ended in December,” VC Workforce and Continuing Education Director Sherri Pall said.

Power line worker training includes power line worker safety, introduction to electrical circuits and electrical theory, climbing wooden poles and other structures, aerial framing and other areas of the trade.

Scholarship opportunities are available for students who qualify.
