Where has the summer gone? Seems like only yesterday, the kids were getting out of school and looking forward to the “lazy days of summer,” and now they are looking forward to buying new clothes for “back to school”!
We have been extremely busy working the fishing tournaments, but what a blessing they have been. We have been given about five tons of fish and have passed out much of it to several places. We have been blessed with a great group of workers who have always shown up at the right time with knives in hand, ready to see things happen for needy people. There is no possible way we could have accomplished what we have except for the help of people who show up to help! “Thank you” sounds so inadequate, but they are the best words I have in my vocabulary!
Again, thank you who bring Poco Bueno, the Lone Star Shoot-Out, and the Sharp Tooth, and the Freeze-Out tournaments to Port O’Connor and encourage the participants to donate the fish to the Chapel! One day, when we see all the good we have done, we will see many hundreds of people who will be saying, “Thanks” for your help in feeding them!
Pastor Joane and her team did an excellent job of putting together a Ladies Retreat here at our Retreat Center. Over 70 ladies came and were extremely blessed – they are even asking when the next one is scheduled. There were several different churches that participated and ladies left here encouraged to see God continue doing special things in their lives.
The following weekend, we opened our Retreat Center to a group of Youth. There were at least 45 kids here and they had an extremely memorable time. There were special speakers, different activities, including a fire pit on Friday night, and of course, the trip to the beach! We have been asked to reserve a time for the Youth to return next year and will be looking forward to scheduling it in the near future.
The Retreat Center is being used again this weekend as Jimmy’s family is coming for a reunion. We host these as often as we can because we believe the Lord is honored by our blessing families.
We have several other Retreats scheduled for later this year and are excited to host each one.
NEWS FLASH – Captain Robert is returning to the Chapel this fall for another Captain’s Class. We were all disappointed when the Sea Academy announced its closure, but with Captain Roberts’ determination and vision, classes will be resuming this fall. Be looking for the upcoming announcement. Do not let it out of the bag, but I believe we can expect one beginning December 8 – just between you and me – okay!
Just a personal note – I sincerely appreciate Pastor Joane and Pastor Jesse stepping up to the plate to fill this pulpit while I have been under the weather. This past month has been very difficult for me because I have been required to slow down and let others help! But, they have been there, even if it has been at the last minute, to preach in my place. Thank you! And Thank You, Chapel Family, for allowing them to minister to you. We are on our way back!
Fisherman’s Chapel is an interdenominational congregation whose mission is to help sojourners successfully travel from earth to glory. We have a great group of loving people who will welcome you warmly. You are always welcome at the Chapel and urged to, “Come, grow with us!”
