Thomas Bull of Port Lavaca presented a hand-made desk name plate to Congressman Blake Farenthold as a gift for President Trump. Thomas fashioned the item of metal and wood with hammer, chisel, punch and torch, duplicating the President’s signature.
Thomas learned his craft from his late grandfather, Billy Bull, “the National Welder of Texas” who made name plates for U.S. Presidents beginning with Reagan, and also for Texas Governors. “We’re not moving fast enough to ‘drain the swamp’,” Congressman Blake Farenthold said in his remarks to the Calhoun County Republican Club on Monday, August 7. “I am so disappointed that we can’t come together on repealing Obamacare, even though everyone campaigned on it.”
He explained that although he had reservations, he voted for the recent bill after the President asked him for his support, explaining that the bill would be the first step in ‘repeal and replace’.
According to Farenthold, there are two reasons why Democrats won’t join in the effort:
1. Policy: The Far Left wants socialized medicine.
2. Political: Democrats have been told not to cooperate on health care. They don’t want to give Trump a win on anything.
“I am disturbed every time I hear that “Congress” is not cooperating on the health care issue. It is not ‘Congress’, it is the Senate. The House of Representatives is supporting the effort.
There were several questions and comments from the audience concerning the budget, the 17th Amendment (how we elect Senators), suggesting a way to better implement ‘See Something-Say Something’, and various other issues. The Congressman said he would bring up their concerns to the appropriate committees.
When asked if anything will be done about former presidential candidates, aides, and others who broke the law during the past campaign, Congressman Farenthold said he is on the Judiciary Committee and they have sent a letter to Attorney General Sessions asking him to prosecute. “If he doesn’t do it, I will bring it to the House floor as a resolution,” he said, to rousing applause from the audience.
The Congressman encourages everyone to contact their representatives about issues that concern them. “We do pay attention to what our constituents have to say,” he said.
