Summer is coming fast to Port O’Connor bringing out of towners, part timers, fishing, activities and fun. The Crawfish Festival was a huge success, and Service Cub Members had fun selling tickets. Don’t you just love how different groups work together and help each other out in our community? I do!

We also presented the 2018 Service Club Scholarships to Mr. Justin Munsch and Ms. Jaylin Ramirez. Both hometown grads are heading to Victoria College and we can’t wait to see what amazing things they do next. Our local scholarships are made possible through our fundraising efforts like our twice-yearly garage sales and bake sales. When you shop with us, you help the students in our community. Thanks for being a part of their success.

POC Community Service Club recently donated the large inflatable movie screen and projector to the POC Library. We look forward to sharing new releases and well-loved classics in their new space.

Our next garage sale is already scheduled for the first Saturday in October and we are taking donations of quality used clothing and household goods for that sale. If you need information on making donations, please call Donna Vuichard at 361-237-0476.

We were honored to be able to donate funds for the Warriors Weekend Sand Sculpture Artists to eat lunch with our local seniors each Tuesday. Most of our members and their families are helping with Warriors Weekend 2018 as volunteers bake hundreds of desserts, make a couple thousand breakfast tacos, house, feed and play hostess to our hero guests, guide fishing boats, serve meals, offer transportation, and do countless other jobs and duties that help make this special weekend special.

Maybe you would like to be part of this wonderful group of women. We love guests and new members. Be aware we only meet one time per month during summertime to allow scheduling of vacations and family time. Join us the 1st Thursday of each month at 10:00 AM in the POC Community Center. You will find a place to serve and friends to bless you while serving.

So, until next time, be safe, live simply, love openly, forgive generously and remember this quote from tennis player and philanthropist Arthur Ashe who said, “Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can! Volunteer!” I bet we have a need for just what you have to give. Come see!
