Nice Reds! -Capt. Jeff Larson

May was a Great Month, June is on track to finish Pretty Good and July should be hotter than ever. May finished strong with Trout, Reds in the Slot and Over. The Trophy Trout Hunters pursuing with tops and tails were able to beat some personal best. Mostly just solid keeper trout were caught. The over 25” trout caught were CPR’d . The Bait Fishermen finished May with stringers of solids as well. We are a week into June, I’m actually on my 1st wading croaker trip of the season. 2 artificial guys catching a couple while the other fisherman and myself are boxing Trout and Reds. The guy on tops just strung 2 17’s, we are making a day of it.

Yesterday out of the Boat, on mid bay reefs, for trout was a struggle. There is always the one guide that is dealt the hot hand but after calling all my buds. I didn’t feel so bad. Little wading with some Croaks gets the ol’ confidence back up.

June started with a heavy in coming tide that brought the Bull Reds and Jack’s into the Bay. We smashed on them for a week. Setting Big Fish Records and having a ton of fun, tore up a bunch of tackle but that’s part of it.

My good friend Baron Jones and new found Friend Aaron Broussard were able to catch the last little bit of the Bull Red Run. The hard in coming tide had drastically slowed down which made for the shoulda been here yesterday excuse. The Beast Reds were there but not on a feeding frenzy like the week before. We shot plenty of footage. We are just waiting on some hopefully great edited footage for his Video Endeavor. Baron did manage to get some awesome video of Skyler of Clark’s Bait Camp stepping out on the dock to let me know that he didn’t have any sardines that morning. All the Offshore Fishermen had bought a truck load earlier that morning. Who knew you could run out of sardines. He did however have some mullet and squid which did the trick for that morning. It wasn’t a Barn Burner Day but we sure made it seem like it was a slam dunk on the Video.

June is heating up. July will be hotter. The good news is Red Snapper season is in full swing. We actually have some time to get out on the rigs for some Snaps, on my days off.

July 4th will be here before you know it. So plan accordingly. Law Enforcement will be patrolling the waters to keep the public safe and ready to respond to calls for help. Also make sure all your safety equipment is up to date and in your boat. Whistle, Flares [make sure they are Not expired] life vests for each person and throw cushions. Always have your ID and fishing license. The Game Wardens can check via a Smart Phone, there has to be cell service, it’s easier and quicker for them if you just have the documents in hand.

Setting up to be a productive Summer. Don’t wait on booking your trip too long. A quick deposit will save your desired dates. If you don’t like the heat. Remember we charter flounder gigging trips also.

Call the Saltwater Lodge and speak with Billy at: 713 907 4796 . He will hook you up. Pun intended.

Wear Sunscreen, Put your Plugs In and Drink Plenty of water.
