If you haven’t been seen it, you don’t know what you are missing!! Most would say that the weekend of the July 4th fireworks is one of the busiest weekends in Port O’Connor! The spectacular show that the Chamber of Commerce puts on, is one of the biggest and best on the Gulf Coast! Visitors come from miles around to spend the day fishing and enjoying the new enlarged King Fisher Park and beach area. During the day you will find craft vendors under the pavilion and food vendors lined up streetside with snowcones, funnel cakes, corn dogs, bar-b-que, and all sorts of goodies. All day, you can see the hardworking volunteers that are assisting the pyrotechnics, loading and hauling fireworks to the end of the pier. Then at about 9:00 pm, the lights go out and the show begins!

Little do you know, just how much it takes to put a show on of this caliber. The POC Chamber starts its fundraising immediately following the previous year’s show, by putting out acrylic donation boxes in our local business’. In the following year, we solicit donations for the fireworks through mailouts to our chamber members and those businesses that profit from the increased living and tourism here. The cost of this Pyrotechnic show is more than $30,000, which includes security, trash receptacles, porta potties, and much more. Unfortunately, last year we failed to meet our goals, but we aren’t letting that hold us back! This year, we want to focus on donations from our business members by offering some perks for their donations. So, please be watching for those sponsorship letters coming soon, and, drop that excess change in those donation boxes!! This will be the 49th year for the Fireworks and we certainly want to be able to carry on this family tradition for many years to come!
