Things are buzzing in Port O’Connor right now. Everywhere you look, something is going on. Tents are being erected at the community center in preparation for Warrior Weekend XIII. Flags are flying all over town to celebrate the visiting soldiers, Memorial Day and the Fourth of July. How can we not feel blessed to live in this wonderful community and great nation? And how can we not feel grateful to all those young men and women who will be visiting POC on May 17-19.

Each year for the past several years POC FBC has provided our church van to transport the soldiers and their family members around during their stay here. Many are having their first visit to Texas and their first fishing experience! All seem to be so excited to be here and are overwhelmed by the love and friendship shown to them. Be sure to greet them with a hug and a handshake when you see them!

Please visit POC Hardware on June 1st to buy some yummy baked goods from our church youth. All proceeds go toward sending them to children’s camp in Palacios or youth camp at Lake Corpus Christi. If you know a child who would like to attend either camp, please text Candice Stryker at 361-655-8224 or Diane Cooley at 903-467-6335 for more details.

School is almost out and Vacation Bible School is just around the corner. You can preregister your children on Facebook or find a link on the POC Chamber page. If you prefer, you can come to the church at 8:30 a.m. on June 3, to register in person. We look forward to having your children and grandchildren for the week.

Mothers’ Day was last Sunday. FBC honored all mothers in attendance and presented each one with a beautiful long stemmed carnation. Our prayer is that all mothers were able to celebrate with loved ones and family. Proverbs 31:26 describes mothers this way. “She opens her mouth with wisdom and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue”.

Don’t forget that we are waiting for you to join us at any or all of our church functions. Church services are Sunday at 11:00 and 6:00. Sunday school for all ages is held at 9:45 and our youth group meets Wednesday nights at 6:00. If you enjoy singing, come join us on Sunday evenings at 5:00 for choir rehearsal. Come see what we are all about. You will be glad you did.

Diane, what a very wonderfully written and informative article. You’ve given everyone in POC info that is needed. Gratitude from everyone for your intelligent writing.
