Let’s get to the meat of this Article! Do Not Buy Custom $300.00 plus Rods and/or Reels for $30 or $40 from the parking lot of a shopping center! Why? You might ask? It’s a good deal?!??! You know, it’s hot! Not the weather, the items are usually stolen! If you do buy some Expensive Custom Equipment for pennies that should be a red flag. The average Fisherman knows what’s a good deal and what’s possibly stolen. Ask the seller where and how he bought the item that he can sell such a high dollar item for so cheap. If they don’t tell you or can’t answer it, that’s another red flag. Oh it’s a good deal you say! Yes it is but if its stolen and it’s in your possession you are now in possession of stolen property and is evidence in the original Theft. So Law Enforcement confiscates it without paying you for it. At that point, it’s a Criminal Charge and a Civil issue that will cost you more money. So if you buy stolen equipment which is used and you get wrapped up in the Theft Ring, Organized Crime. You are better off buying your own Custom Rods and Reels brand new.
So you can understand a little better. There are several young adults in Calhoun County that are a part of a Felony Theft Ring that has been targeting high end fishing equipment. One of these Criminals is a son of Local Law Enforcement! The case is coming to a close and arrest warrants are being drawn up. So this ring just made a mistake and stole from me who will be seeking arrest on all parties involved and then Civil Restitution until every Penny is recovered.
ON A POSITIVE NOTE!
Since the beginning of this incident, my family has to give kudos to Local Law Enforcement. The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is and has been Awesome! The Patrol Officer, Supervisors, and Detectives have maintained the highest level of professionalism that I have ever dealt with in my career. To be honest, I was not easy to deal with once we recovered some of our own stolen property. I also have to say thanks to the Guide couple that called me when they saw my stolen equipment.
DETAILS and Names will follow once Arrests are made on the multiple suspects.
The Good News is that once they are caught it will detour them from stealing. It’s not just fishing equipment either. Its Duck Hunting Equipment also, typically Duck Decoys. Then there are Boat Parts, ie. Props, Gas, etc.
It’s a good idea to mark all your equipment with personal identification. It could be anything like a self made scratch or marking. It doesn’t have to be your DL or SSN. Just a simple mark in a specific area of the product.
In my case, there was 1 rod that had teeth marks that matched.
The latest outdoor update is the Fishing and Gigging remain Hot, Hot, Hot!
Captain Pat and Dustin still remain on fire at night with Flounder Limits. They haven’t cooled off yet! This is the year of the Flounder! Come stab you some!
Offshore has been producing limits of Kings, Snapper and Cobia. No Billfish yet! I need to call Captain Steve Reed on that one.
Trout and Reds are scattered along the shorelines from Matagorda to Rockport. Wading, obviously is the best way to target and connect with Trout and Reds. When it’s not blowing a gale you can boat fish the Mid Bay Reefs and the Wells.
Now we are headed into Hurricane Season. It’s a great time for fishing but a scary time for those who live on the Coast. If you need to get a last minute trip before school starts call Billy:
