History was made at First Baptist Church, Port O’Connor, on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2020. The first ever drive up service was preached by our pastor, Bro. Phillip Miller. Because of the Covid 19 restrictions, the federal and state governments would not allow us to hold services in our church building. God provided a solution to this problem and many of us were able to hear in person a wonderful sermon based on Matthew 28 and Romans 5, concerning hope and confident expectations that God is truly in control. Dorothy Rhuman sang a beautiful rendition of “It Is Well With My Soul” and we all sang hymns from our cars and golf carts! Approximately 25 cars with multiple occupants attended. Since Easter, we have had one other out door service and several live Facebook services.

This past Sunday, May 10, Mothers” Day, had our first indoor service in our sanctuary since the pandemic began. Several pews were blocked off so that we could maintain social distancing. We were required to enter and exit in single file maintaining the 6 foot rule. Pews and books were disinfected before and after the service. Hand sanitizer was available. Masks were recommended but not required. There was no Sunday School, only church at 11:00 a.m. These rules will be in effect until further notice. We realize that not everyone is comfortable going out in public yet, services will still be on Facebook if you cannot attend.

We are still planning on having Vacation Bible School this summer. It has been rescheduled to the week of July 6. As of now, all activities will be outdoors under tents. For more information, you can check the First Baptist Church site on Facebook
.
Please remember to support the local food bank located at Fishermans’ Chapel. We collect food items at our church to deliver there. So many in our community are in need right now. We are also continuing to collect items for the Samaritain’s Purse shoe boxes.
This month we are collecting bar soap, wash rags, hairbrushes, combs, toothbrushes and small toys. Monetary donations are also welcome for the food bank and the shoe boxes.

We are waiting to welcome you when you feel comfortable joining us. We won’t shake your hand or hug you, but we will smile and wave!! Come visit First Baptist Church.
