It seems as if the flowers and trees benefited from the severe freeze we experienced here earlier this year. We have the greenest leaves and the most beautiful flowers we have had in years! While we were mopping up the indoor floods and replacing burst pipes, God was preparing this glorious spring for us! Just more proof that everything works for good under His control.

Speaking of spring, school will be ending soon and graduation can’t be far away. First Baptist Church honors their seniors every year with the presentation of a Bible during a Sunday morning church service. This year we only have one graduate from our church, Dylon Schumann. Congratulations, Dylon. We are so proud of you. FBC is praying that your future is filled with God’s blessings and that you seek his direction for your life.

It’s also almost time for our semi-annual Birthday Bash. It will be held on June 27 at 6:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Make plans to attend and bring a side dish or dessert to share. The church will be grilling hamburgers and hot dogs for everyone and we will be honoring our January through June birthday celebrants. We haven’t had a church wide gathering since December. Hibernation is over!

The next big event on the FBC calendar is going to be Vacation Bible School, July 11-14. Like last year’s VBS, we will have a youth group from Arkansas helping us and we enjoyed hosting them last year. Make plans for your children and grandchildren to attend and remember that we will be collecting spare change every day during VBS to send to the South Texas Children’s home. It’s always an exciting contest between our boys and girls to see who can collect the most money.

We have two collection boxes in our foyer that stay out all year. One is for the Community Food Bank that is administered by Fisherman’s Chapel. Any nonperishable food item is accepted. The other collection is for the Samaritan’s Purse Christmas shoe boxes. Small toys, soap bars, hair items, colors, markers, T-shirts, socks, washrags and toothbrushes are just some of the items that are needed. Last year we sent 172. This year our goal is 200! The boxes are sent around the world and each will contain a Bible written in the language of the specific country. Be part of this wonderful ministry.
