Long time resident William Wilson Loden (known to others as Bill, Uncle Bill, Gramps and Dad) of Port O’Connor, passed away July 21 2021. He was 89 years old and just two months away from his 90th birthday. He was born 9-22-1931 in Austin, TX to the late Leamon W. Loden and Gladys Wolf Loden. Growing up he was known as Billy. His Dad died when Billy was young and he and his brother were raised by his mother Gladys. Billy’s Aunt Effie taught him and his brother Richard how to fish and they spent many a day fishing at the river. He also liked to spend time at his grandparents farm in McDade, TX. Bill worked at Jefferson Chemical Co. in Austin for many years before becoming a homebuilder. When his youngest child Rodney graduated from high school in 1976 he and his wife Bobbie moved to Port O’Connor. They ran Capt’s Bait Stand where Froggie’s is now. They then acquired the old Pat’s Alley and put in Uncle Bill’s Marina. Many good times and life long friends were made there. After retirement you could always find Bill “making the rounds” in town. You could also find him fishing on the river with Wade “Tweety” Wilburn or hanging out at Froggie’s! Bill loved his grandsons dearly. His love of fishing was instilled in his grandsons, great grandsons and granddaughter. Gramp’s was more than just a Grandpa, he was their friend and confidant. Bill never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face.
Bill is survived by his loving daughter Terri Maxwell and son-in-law Terry. Grandchildren Chad Maxwell/ wife Robin, Chris Maxwell/wife Nita and Kyle Maxwell/ wife Kati. He is also survived by his great grandchildren: Chad Jr, Chase, Daxton, Tiffany and Ellison Maxwell.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, son Rodney Loden, brother Richard Loden and wife Billie.
A sincere thank you to Twin Pines North Nursing and Rehab for their excellent care. A special thanks to Wade Wilburn for your love, kindness and time spent with Dad. This meant more than you will ever know. Also thank you Teel boys. Gary, Kelvin and Melvin. You three were his adopted “sons”. I will never forget all your love and friendship you three have given Dad throughout the years.
I will forever miss Dad’s smiling face. What an amazing life and legacy you left behind Dad! Till we meet again.
