WOW- what a fantastic summer the POC Library has had, and our wonderful Librarian, Michelle Marlin, is now busily getting ready for the upcoming School Year, and the influx of students, Community Patrons, visitors, Winter Texans, and children of all ages!! Mrs. Marlin is always smiling, eager, and willing to help with anything and everything that we need: books; periodicals; computers; all of the many services and programs the Library offers; questions of all sorts; and is a wealth of information for all of us!!! In addition, she keeps our beautiful library clean, well organized, and in ship shape order at all times!! Thank you, Ms. Michelle, we appreciate all of your hard work, and all that you do for all of us!!!
The Library’s action-packed, fun filled Summer Reading Program has come to a dramatic end with its Awards Program held on July 27, 2021. The Program, which is offered by the Calhoun County Library System, encourages children 0-8th Grade to read books, and those who achieve the various reading goals are rewarded with certificates, trophies, and a chance to win the Grand Prize- an Ipad or a Kindle. The Summer Reading Program, titled “Tails and Tales” also offered wonderful weekly programs to people of all ages including: “Dixie The Retriever”, “Chopped”, “World of Magic”, “Crochet 101”, “Creepy Crawlers”, “Glowforge Art”, “Songwriting With David”, and “Saving Tales”. A huge ‘Thank you” goes out to the Calhoun County Library System for providing this wonderful program, their Children’s Librarian, Kelley Ashley, her assistant, Erasmo Camacho, our Librarian, Michelle Marlin, the Friends of the POC Library, Mary Ann Claiborne, all of the Sponsors and Volunteers, and all who provided the wonderful prizes and refreshments for our weekly programs and the Awards Program!! Your contributions, hard work, and dedication are greatly appreciated!! The Summer Reading Program would like to congratulate its First Place winner, Harley Hamilton; and Second Place winner, Audrey Rhoads!!! Harley was awarded with an IPad, and Audrey was awarded with a Kindle. The POC Library is proud of all of its 17 Participants who read a total of 116 hours of reading!!!! Well done everyone!!!!

Mrs. Marlin has scheduled two life-saving programs that will be conducted by instructor Mike Monning and his wife, Anne Monning, who are volunteering their time:
“Stop The Bleed” classes will be held on Friday, August 20, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. and again on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 10:00 a.m., both in the Library’s Multimedia Room. The classes are free of charge and All Are Welcome!!
“Heart Saver CPR Certification” will be offered on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at 1:00 PM in the Library’s Multimedia Room. The class is limited to 9 participants. There is a $17.00 charge for the CPR Card, which Participants will need to prepay when they register. Please call 361-983-4365 with any questions.
The “Friends Of The Poc Library” have also scheduled many great programs and activities for adults and children, and will be scheduling more throughout the year. Please mark your calendars, and stay tuned for future announcements!!!

“Community Coffee Hour”– Please join members of the “Friends of the POC Library” for a weekly ADULT gathering to discuss current events, creative ideas, self-improvement, community issues, etc. over coffee and pastries. We look forward to seeing you!! The Community Coffee Hours are scheduled for every Wednesday morning from 8:00-9:00 a.m. in the Library’s Multimedia Room. Begins on September 15, 2021. All are welcome!!

The Friends Of The Poc Library “Children’s Programs”:
The “Friends of the POC Library” will be presenting fun and interesting Children’s Programs on the second Saturday of every month September of 2021 through May of 2022 from 10:00 a.m.-11:30a.m. in the Library’s Multimedia Room. Refreshments will be provided for the children, and the adults who accompany them!! All programs are free!! The first Children’s program will be a Scavenger Hunt to be held on Saturday, September 11, 2021 from 10:00 a.m.-11:30 a.m.. Dates and Programs for all future programs will be posted in each month’s edition of the Dolphin Talk, on the Friends of the POC Library Facebook Page, on the POC Library’s Facebook Page, and on the “Event Information Board” at the POC Library.
