“Hooked on Books” held its October meeting at the home of Hostess, Brenda Berger, with cohosts Jo Beth Staff and Sherri Judice. Attendees arrived to view a beautiful Fall themed setting, leaving everyone yearning for the arrival of crisper, cooler Fall weather!! The Ladies were treated to a variety of delicious refreshments, while visiting and enjoying each other’s company.
Following the meal, the group held their discussion and critique of October’s book, Almost Gone, by John and Mackenzie Baldwin. The book is a gripping account of the Baldwin family’s real-life drama, written in alternating chapters by both the father (John) and his daughter (Mackenzie). Without giving away the story or final outcome to those who haven’t read the book, it told of Mackenzie’s entrapment into a world she had no idea awaited her, and the extensive steps her parents took to save her. The book emphasizes the dangers that young people can face when using social media, online chat rooms, dating sites, etc., and the perils, many times life threatening, that can develop when innocent victims are lured by would-be suitors, without the knowledge or approval of their parents. The book was suspenseful, and hard to put down once you started reading it, and all agreed it was well written and a good read for sure.
During the meeting, the Club also discussed a list they had compiled of books for future reading, and then voted on their reading list for their 2022 Reading Season. It was a fun and entertaining afternoon, and greatly enjoyed by all in attendance. Thank you to our wonderful Hostesses for a great time!!
