To all of the Dolphin Talk readers who also used to read the column “The Way I See It” by William Brayshaw, I apologize as his widow, for not informing Joyce Rhyne of his death back in December of 2021, so she could have mentioned it in her newspaper. He had been fighting cancer since 2017, and did all of the pushups with months of radiation and chemo treatments, which he tolerated quite well. But a third surgical repair after two major surgeries was the end. Pain coming from somewhere no one was able to determine and the VA not allowing his civilian primary care doctor to prescribe any more pain medication, led to him taking his own life. Our government is always happy to give free pain meds and meth, and marijuana to the homeless and to illegals, but prohibit doctors from giving anything to the veterans who keep defending the Constitution of the United States.
Those of you who enjoyed his articles, know who he was and what he stood for. Those of you who mocked him, and to the one commenter (SMH), who even went so far as to hope he died from his cancer, if you see this, your wish came true. I hope, as hateful as you said he was, that your life has dramatically improved because he is gone.
William was a two tour Vietnam veteran, who came from an entire family of Veterans. His father, step mother, brother, wife (me), my father, grandfather, two uncles, sister, and brother-in-law all served in the military. At this time in history, military service is not very much respected anymore, but some of us remember when we were all proud of our military service people.
Mr. Brayshaw tried very hard to get people to understand how important it was to remember our history and to remember why we are the one and only country in the world where everyone else has always wanted to come. Of course they all want to come here now… everything is free… paid for by US, the American Taxpayer. But for decades people have wanted to come here because we offered them the freedom to fulfill their dreams.
RIP, Bill.
-Karla Burland, widow of William Brayshaw
