November’s “Hooked On Books” Book Club Meeting was a trip back in time to the Texas Panhandle during the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl; highlighting the plight of thousands of American families forced into extreme poverty, homelessness, and heartbreak, with our historical novel, The Four Winds, by Kristin Hannah. Our Hostesses: Kim Hall, Connie Hall, Melanie Martinez, and Val Tiemann did an excellent job recreating scenes from the book with their many props, multimedia presentation, historical readings, delicious dishes, and beverages. The 17 lovely ladies in attendance enjoyed a delectable spread of Arancini with garlic tomato sauce; seasoned Pork Meatballs; Pasta; Homemade Bread with Butter; Saltine Crackers; Bologna Sandwiches; Pork and Beans; Stack Cake; Peach Ricotta Cake; Ginger Snap Cookies; Peaches; Peppermint Sticks; Licorice; Red Wine; Tea; and Water. A lively book discussion followed, with the ladies answering questions and debating episodes and characters from the book. It was a fun, entertaining, and informative meeting; and everyone thanked our Hostesses for a wonderful afternoon- Great Job, Ladies!!
