Several years ago, the Port O’Connor community saw the need for a special fund that would provide Food Baskets for the needy people here in our community. Hence was established this special fund at our local branch of First National Bank. Money has been raised and expenditures have been made to provide needy families with food baskets that will take care of them for more than the special holiday meal.
In 2022, we had an income of $4,265.00 provided by the local churches, the Ladies Service Club, and individuals who saw the need and responded with funds. We are honored to report that fifty (50) Food Baskets were distributed at the Chapel which cost a total of $5,375.84. Additionally, there were at least ten other families who received food during the same period. In addition to these funds expended there were many who brought non perishables to the Chapel for distribution.
All who do the simple math see that we failed to raise over $1,100.00 to fully fund this project. The way the funds were expended was that we saw there had been a short fall during the preceding years and that additional donations were necessary to keep giving the food baskets to the needy families. Generous friends gave additionally, and we were able to meet this need with those gifted dollars. This year’s food bill was over $1,100.00 more than in 2021 – yes inflation hit us just like it hit you.
If you wish to provide for the needy in our community with Thanksgiving and Christmas Food Baskets in the manner that we have been able to accomplish in the past several years, you can give a cash donation to any of our community churches or deposit it in our local branch bank. We have proven time and time again that we are some of the most generous people on the Gulf Coast and with your continued support, we can continue making our needy families’ Thanksgiving and Christmas much brighter!
I recently read in a Good Book that blessed are those who minister to the needy for their individual needs will be met by God Himself!
