We are so pleased to announce that a special friend to our library, Mary Ann Claiborne, was honored with a declaration by Calhoun County Judge Richard R. Meyer. (Please see story on elsewhere in this issue.)

Another shout-out to Susan Wallace for her generous donation to the POC Library Branch! Proceeds were used to purchase a table and chairs to accommodate those large puzzles, the game that tests ingenuity. In addition, these proceeds made it possible to purchase a console for the Multipurpose Room and new toys for the Kid’s Corner. Please drop by and check out these gifts to our community.

Speaking of donations, our community came together to help a family in need. Tragedy struck the Stovall family and they lost most of their belongings in a house fire. Fellow librarian Debbie Stovall works for the main library in Port Lavaca. The Port O’Connor Service Club donated clothing items and the POC Library Branch collected financial donations for the family. We have such a generous and resourceful community!
Friends of the POC Library:
On March 2nd, The Friends were actively involved, along with students, parents, faculty and staff and other community members, at the Port O’Connor Elementary School’s Open House and Book Fair. The Friends supported literacy and a love of reading by donating $10 to every student on campus and $20 to classroom teachers to buy books at the book fair.

1:00 – 3:00 p.m. – “Mahjongg” It’s all about having a “ton of fun” in the afternoon with Wednesday friends! The origin of the game’s name is “sparrows,” but what is this game? It is a Chinese game played, usually by two to four people, with 136 or 144 rectangular pieces called tiles. The object is to collect winning sets of these tiles, as in card games such as gin rummy. Join us for tutoring!

Children’s Event April 1st:
Library Multipurpose Room
Sat., April 1st, 10:00-11:30
Bugs and Birds

What a successful event for February! About fifty people showed up, children and adults. Parents and children were interacting and sharing the love for this Valentine’s Day event.
Not only does March bring colors to our lives and environments, but it especially brought spring green for Saturday’s Children’s Event, March Winds and St. Patrick’s Day. With winds, clouds and changing skies, participants created crafts inside and games outside.
