The POC Garden Club annual meeting was held September 19th at the garden site. Current members along with new members were in attendance to hear a review of the past year and about plans for the new year. Three plots vacated and then members on the waiting list filled those beds.
Officers and board members were elected, and they are as follows:
President- Cindy Hanson
Vice Pres. of Fundraising- Terri McGuire
Vice Pres. of Membership- Donna Trubee
Secretary- Nancy Ladshaw
Treasurer: Melanie Martinez.
Elected Directors are:
Kay Simmons
Daphne Powers
Norman Trubee
Tiffany Mohr
Luke Lawrence
Debbie Lawrence
The club looks forward to improving the area with covered walkways, paths with crushed granite, fencing, an area for a mural painting, signage, and a gazebo-like structure.
There are spaces for chicken coops and beehives. If you are interested in having eggs and honey, please contact Cindy Hanson at 361-676-3093. If you are interested in having a plot, we have a waiting list that determines if we will expand with a phase 2 for additional beds.
All are welcome to join the club that meets monthly on the third Tuesday. The cost is $20 for the year. An exception was this month when Lauren Martin, who is a master Gardener from Richmond, will talk on composting at the POC Library on October 18.
The gardeners are looking forward to their fall plant and harvest. -Darla Miles
