Great news to report this month regarding the seventeen month journey to raise money to rejuvenate the Port O’Connor Community Center. The goal has finally been reached. The Port O’Connor Chamber of Commerce voted to supply the last needed funds in the amount of just over $15,000.00. They will pay these funds directly to the contractor when the first draw is due on the restroom remodel at the Pavilion. A big THANK YOU to all on the Chamber Board who voted to supply these funds so that this project could be completed. The Community Center does bring in many visitors each year who spend money at Chamber member businesses. It plays a vital roll in the economics of Port O’Connor. Now, with the final funds received, the Community Center can continue to do so for many years to come.
Two other groups also helped us reach our Facelift Project goal this past month. The Port O’Connor Ladies Bookclub donated $601.00 and we also received another check from the Little Mullets Fishing Tournament. This tournament has been a big supporter of the Facelift Project from the very beginning. THANK YOU everyone who helped make this dream come true.
If you have an opportunity to visit the Community Center, be sure to take time to appreciate all the improvements that have been done inside. There is new flooring, paint, counter tops and chairs. If you were part of the fundraising process at any point, now you can see where your donated dollars were spent. Work probably has already been started on the Pavilion by the time this paper is delivered. It is slated to be completed in 60 days depending on the weather. Stay tuned for information on the date and time for the celebration to show off all the new improvements.
