Barbara Sue Jackson Crouch was received to eternal life on Monday, February 12, 2024. She was born in Columbus, Texas to John Leland Jackson and Margaret Ann Prillop Jackson on August 9, 1937. Barbara attended school in Port Lavaca, Texas and graduated with the class of 1955. She married James Robert Crouch on June 25, 1955, in Port Lavaca, Texas. Barbara attended Southwest Texas State University and earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She began her teaching career in Lockhart, Texas as a fifth-grade teacher and taught fifth grade there for sixteen years.

Barbara and Jim moved to Port O’Connor, Texas in 1978, where she continued her teaching career, teaching fourth grade in Port O’Connor until she retired. Her contributions to education were noteworthy and she was recognized for them as a recipient of the Teacher of The Year award for Port O’Connor School and was extended an invitational membership to Delta Kappa Gamma educational honor sorority. She continued her education with post graduate studies at SWTSU, St. Edwards University, The University of Texas and the University of Houston, Victoria.

Barbara was active in her communities serving as president of the Calhoun County Arts Council and was a member of the Port O’Connor Library Board. A lifelong lover of music, Barbara was an accomplished pianist and organist and contributed musically for Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Lockhart and First Baptist Church in Port O’Connor.

Barbara loved her family, truly enjoyed socializing with her friends and was a huge Aggie fan! She communicated daily with many and is remembered for her positive and encouraging words to all who knew her.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and infant son, James Louis Crouch. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, James Robert Crouch, her children, Joni Groom and Jimmy Crouch Jr., grandchildren, Constance Crouch and Shawn Crouch (Tara), great grandchildren, Arthur Louis Crouch and Charlotte Ann Crouch, numerous nieces, and other family members.

Celebration of Life Services was held Monday, February 19, at McCurdy Funeral Home in Lockhart with the Rev. Karen Morris officiating.
