Port O’ Connor’s Hooked on Books Club held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, October 8. Hostesses were Gladys Smedley, Susan Bertlshofer, Mary Hirschhauser, Donna Trubee, & Agnes Hannes.
The afternoon was a complete success, and the ladies enjoyed an array of Irish-themed food and beverages: Reuben slider sandwiches, banana cream cake, shortbread cookies and Bailey’s Irish Cream for beverages.
After socializing and indulging in the luncheon, a lively discussion of Sebastian Barry’s The Secret Scripture followed, addressing the many complex topics woven throughout the text, such as unjust gender bias, inequality, and religious discrimination. It was a fun and wonderful afternoon and appreciated by all. Thank you, hostesses, for bringing the book to life.
Following the book meeting, the ladies voted on the selections for the Club’s 2025 reading list, resulting in a wonderful variety of books for the upcoming year.
The Club’s next meeting will be held at 2:00 p.m. on November 12th and the book choice is The General’s Daughter by Nelson DeMill. If you are interested in joining Hooked on Books, please email your contact information to alanehaardt@yahoo.com. All ladies are welcome!
