The Seadrift Chamber is busy preparing for the 31st annual Shrimpfest scheduled for June 10th and 11th. We would like to thank all who attended the February chamber meeting, it’s great to see the crowd growing!

Recently members posted the new billboards adorned with the 2011 Shrimpfest logo plus a banner launching a new slogan, “Eat More Shrimp in Seadrift, Texas” on Sunday, February 20, 2011. In addition, members repaired the wind damage caused by recent weather to the chamber shrimp boat by the billboard. Special thanks to the cheerful volunteers who were able to help out; Nan Burnett, Helon Loep, Peggy and Dale Gaines, Mike Mueller, Jason Jones, Jack LaBarge, John Rossello and Jackson Gordon. The community greatly appreciates it.

We’d like to highlight a few items this year:
• The scholarship awarded by the chamber to a High School Senior from Seadrift has been increased from one – $500 Scholarship to three recipients of a $500 scholarship.
• The Battle of the Bands competition for Shrimpfest is under way! We will have several members out helping to promote getting bands signed up for Saturday, June 11th. If you are interested in performing, sign up forms are available online.
• Sponsorships for Shrimpfest are now available; there are several levels which you can become a sponsor. Deadline to get your name or logo on shirts, banners or koozies is April 15th.
• More children’s activities will be added to this year’s lineup. Kids will have the chance to play a game of laser tag and jump on moonwalks; which are planned to be set next to the adult tournaments.
