Johnny Davenport, 79, of Seadrift, passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2013. He was born April 14, 1933 in Uvalde to the late Preston O. and Minnie Lea Gulley Davenport. Johnny was a life long shrimper and he loved it; he also worked for Jeri’s Seafood many years. He served as Constable of Precinct 4 for 12 years and was the WSCCND Harbor Master for 18 years.
Johnny is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Glenda Mooney Davenport; daughter, Jackie (Marcus) May; son, Glen (Kim) Davenport, all of Seadrift; sister, Nada Hopper of California; brother, Prescal Davenport of Seadrift; five grandchildren, Heather (Casey) Carter, Tabatha (James) Salazar, Jonathan (Tonya) Davenport, Caitlynn Davenport and Ashley (Josh) Waghorne; 10 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other family members.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Leroy Davenport and his grandson, Dustin May.
Graveside services were held at Seadrift Cemetery on January 4, 2013, with Chaplain Larry Green of Hospice of South Texas, officiating.
Pallbearers were Jonathan Davenport, Casey Carter, James Salazar, Josh Waghorne, Jimmy Davenport and Gary Adams. Honorary Pallbearers are Ben Nelson, John Bove, Henry Anderson and member of WSCCND Board.
