Victoria College’s Workforce and Continuing Education Department will begin a commercial truck driving course on April 1. The course will meet Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
“Truck drivers are still in high demand right now,” said Sherri Pall, director of VC’s Workforce and Continuing Education Department. “Due to the oil and gas activity in the Eagle Ford Shale region, we continue to see a shortage of CDL drivers across many industries.”
The Truck Driving Program at VC provides training for entry-level employment, and students who complete the training can obtain a Commercial Truck Driver’s license.
The program combines classroom instruction along with behind-the-wheel driving range activities, including public, street and highway driving, safety, rules, regulations and techniques. Upon successful course completion, students are eligible to take the Commercial Driver License written and driving examinations at the Department of Public Safety. These exams are included as class activities.
Admission requirements include a valid Texas driver’s license, successful completion of a Department of Transportation physical examination and drug and alcohol screening. Tuition assistance may be available. For more information or to enroll, please contact Mary Pullin at (361) 485-6830
