Port O’Connor PreK, K, and 1st & 2nd graders dressed up like “100 year olds” to celebrate the 100th day of school.

 

The Seadrift Masonic Lodge presented 1st grade students at Seadrift School with an important lesson about dental health. The Grand Lodge of Texas provides our local lodge with bags filled with the necessities to care for teeth. The students were extremely excited and thankful!

The Cat in the Hat visited Seadrift School on March 8th. He read “Yertle the Turtle” by Dr. Seuss to the students. At right: the PreK class with the Cat in the Hat. -Kelly Hataway

 

POC School 3rd grade readers celebrated the Bluebonnet winner, “Postcards From Camp”, by hosting a camp-themed party. They had cupcakes, told campfire stories and Mrs. Mooney made Smores Trail Mix. The total amount of books read by POC School Voters was 374 (does not include totals for those who did not vote).

 

High Readers at POC School
Each year 20 books are chosen to be read and voted on by 3rd-6th grade students across Texas. When the student has read five or more books, they vote to choose a winner for the state. Port O’Connor School had 49 children vote this year. The votes were turned into the state program and added with other students across the state to determine the winner.
The overall school high readers were: Sarah Doggett – 19 Books (3rd Grade); Tarah Munsch – 19 Books (3rd Grade); Brooklyn Redmond – 17 Books (4th Grade); Amy Resendiz – 14 Books (3rd Grade); John Rosenboom – 11 Books (3rd Grade); Anthony Luna – 11 Books (3rd Grade); Clayton Maraggia – 11 Books (5th Grade).
3rd Grade voters read a total of 172 books:  Sarah – 19; Tarah – 19; Amy – 14; John – 11; Anthony – 11, Shayla – 9; Madison – 9; Maddie – 9; Jessie – 9; Joey – 9; Harley – 9; Gilbert – 9; Shane – 8; Reba – 8; Alex – 7; Keven – 7; Jarius – 6
4th Grade voters read a total of 105 books: Brooklyn – 17; Jocelynn – 8; Ally – 7; Faith – 7; Kinley – 7; Brenley – 6; Chloe – 6; Collin – 6; Eli – 6; Blake – 5; Dalton – 5; Dylon – 5; Esmeralda – 5; Evan – 5; Felicity – 5; Taylor – 5
5th Grade voters read a total of 97 books: Clayton – 11; Thomas – 8; Elizabeth – 7; Hannah – 7; Paige – 7; Carly – 6; Shayleigh – 6; Brianna – 5; Canion – 5; Carlos – 5; Colton – 5; Daniel – 5; Riley – 5; Sam – 5; Trey – 5; Mary – 5                                 -Andrea Munsch

Speedy Stop and ExxonMobil Educational Alliance Donate a $500 Grant to POC Elementary Principal Lydia Strakos gratefully accepts a check for $500 from Speedy Stop Store Managers, Mike Hernandez and John Hribek.
