A group of Calhoun High students recently toured the Texas Capitol. They observed the Legislature in session; met with Senator Lois Kolkhorst and Representative Geanie Morrison; toured the Governor’s Mansion; and toured the Capitol building and grounds including the new Tejano Monument. Among the things they learned while observing the paintings in the Rotunda: Fletcher Stockton, a cattleman and attorney from Indianola, was appointed Governor of Texas by President Lincoln after the resignation of Sam Houston. Governor Fletcher served as Governor for only three weeks.
